    Violin Bridges

A violin bridge has two purposes; it helps keep the strings free from the fingerboard and most importantly it transmits the vibration from the strings to the body of the violin.

It takes skill and special equipment to fit a bridge.  Each bridge must be shaped to fit the belly of the violin and also to match the shape and height of the fingerboard.  Hence all of these bridges will need to be custom fitted to your violin by a luthier to ensure an optimal result.

Bridges can break or warp so it is not unusual for a violin to need a new bridge over time.  A new (different) bridge can also improve the sound of an instrument.
