    Product Description

The following description is from thec maker himself, Andrew Metaxas:

This viola represents the fulfillment of a long hold dream to make a professional quality viola for my own use.
In 2011 the opportunity to learn the craft of violin making from John Ferwerda (mastercraftsman) fell into my lap and I seized the moment!
This viola is based on the 1785 Guadagnini pattern found in the "Strad" magazine.

On it's completion it was exhibited at the 2012 Australasian Violin makers' conference and subsequently I played it in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to great acclaim. I have also played this viola in chamber music and solo recitals.
In side underneath top left corner is written "Brutus No. Viola No.1"  and its is signed and dated.

The overall body length is "16 1/4 inches (41.3mm) and the string length ratio is correct.
The timber used in this viola from sourced from the Bavarian Alps (top) and Bosnian Maple (back, ribs and neck) all supplied by Gleisner in Bavaria and guaranteed 7 years air dried and of high quality.

The viola is one of three I made of this pattern- the third is used professionaly in the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
