    Product Description

This exceptionally beautiful Italian violin was made by Barbara Piccinotti in 2018.

The belly is made from spruce sourced in the Fiemme Valley in the Trentino Province of Italy.  The top has two pieces (as almost all violins)  with a medium dense grain that widens towards the edges.

The joint of these two pieces are so well executed that it is not evident to the naked eye. The one-piece back of the violin is made from maple with flaming that is narrow and deep with even spacing. This figuring descends in a slight diagonal from left to right.  The figuring of the ribs matches that of the back.

The scroll is also made of maple with the same characteristic stripes. The violin is oil-varnished in shades of copper with an amber background, spread evenly with a transparent and brilliant appearance.

The pegs, tailpiece, and chin rest have been crafted from rosewood.  It comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Barbara Piccinotti was born in Brescia in Northern Italy in 1975.  She came from a family with a long tradition of furniture restoration.  From childhood, she learned to carve wood from her father, uncle and brother. At the age of fourteen, she studied traditional violin making at the Antonio Stradivari School of violin making.  There she studied with Maestro Giorgio Scolari.  After graduating in 1993,  she spent many years continuing her training in the workshop of Stefano Trabucchi where she developed further her technique of violin making and varnishing.

In 1999, she opened her own workshop in "Via Pecorari No5" in Cremona.  Her instruments are now appreciated worldwide for the beautiful quality of their sound.  Barbara makes violins, violas and cellos that follow the classical Cremonese tradition, along with her own personal models.  She crafts her instruments from carefully selected wood, using high-quality varnishes with modern or antique finishes.

Along with practising the art of violin making,  Barbara sings in a choir.
