    The handwritten label reads:

"A l’enseigne de la bonne Lorraine

    Jehanne H. Blaise est feseur

    de violons a Mirecourt H B”.

This label was a trademark for a Cousenon-Bernardel brand of violin. Cousenon-Bernardel was based in Paris and Mirecourt and was a large firm that dealt in high-end musical instruments. The well known luthier Leon Bernadel was a director of the company. Of historical interest, the H Blaise instrument can be found listed in their 1934 catalogue as being highly recommended and suitable for the advanced player. These violins were well assembled and based on the Amati template and have a slender neck that feels very comfortable in the hand.
