    Product Description

Finzi, Violin Concerto (Boosey and Hawkes) Violin with piano reduction

solo violin part edited by Tasmin Little

Gerald Raphael Finzi (14 July 1901 – 27 September 1956) was a British composer of Jewish/Italian descent. His violin concerto was written for Sybil Eaton, a young violinist with whom he had fallen ineffectually in love.   The world premiere of this concerto was actually performed by her along with the British Women's Orchestra at Queen's Hall London in 1927 and was conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent.   The second performance of this concerto was not until 1999.

The the work is very much of its period,  with a combination of pastoral, folksong and Bach that contrasts with the neo-baroque of Stravinsky.
