Keith Sharp
Keith Sharp is a string teacher and composer living and working in Brisbane, Australia.
Born in 1962 in Yepoon, he spent his early years on the Capricorn Coast of Queensland where his mother Collen Sharp was a string teacher for many years. He comes from a very musical family-in which along with his mother his sister, his aunt and uncle have all been string teachers.
Keith completed his Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in 1984, where he majored in performance with viola as his chief instrument. His teachers included his uncle, Dr Anthony Doheny for violin and John Curro for viola. He also undertook post graduate studies at South East Queensland University to obtain a Diploma of Education. Since 1985, he has been a string teacher in the Gap regional state school in Brisbane. In 2012, he also began teaching at Brisbane State HIgh School which is a partially selective school with a well known music programme. HIs teaching there is focused on ensemble and group tuition.
Throughout his career, his ensembles have been recognised for their high standard of performance. He has a passion for writing imaginative and enjoyable compositions for string students. His compositiong are very popular in Australia and have also been discovered around the world by teachers in the US, UK and Germany. Many of his educational ensemble works have been featured as “Editors Choice” in the JW Pepper Orchestral Music Catalog.
With his wife Natalie Sharp, Keith co-authored the popular strings beginners method called Encore on Strings – Music Maestros. The Encore on Strings series has been written for violin, viola , cello and double bass. He has 45 string orchestra publications to date.

Keith has been a commitee member and president of AUSTA Queensland (Australian String Association) and he achieved the AUSTA State Award for Queensland in 2012. He is a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow and has been the recipient of the Ryan Recognition Award in 2006. In 2006 he was the recipient of the Ryan Recognition Award for services to music in the community.
Keith regularly appears at workshops, schools and music camps as a guest conductor, and clinician and lecturer. Keith coordinates festivals and concerts and was essential to the founding of GRIPPS (the Gap Regional Primary Performance School) which is a yearly instrumental music camp. He also acts as an adjudicator at competitions and guest lectures at the Queensland Conservatorium and the University of Queensland.
